How to Cook a Whole Duck in the Ninja Max Pro Air Fryer

Hello everyone! Welcome to my channel, or welcome back if you're a regular. I'm Lind, and today, I have an unexpected but exciting reading for you. I found a whole duck on sale during Christmas, and initially planned to cook it using the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer. However, I soon realized that the whole duck wouldn't fit in one of the drawers. So, I decided to cut the duck in half, and today, I'll be cooking the second half using the Ninja Max Pro, which has a larger drawer.

Ingredients and Tools

  • Half a whole duck
  • Himalayan salt
  • Sea salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • Cut-up potatoes
  • Chunky carrots
  • Kitchen paper
  • Microwave-safe container
  • Air fryer

Preparation

  1. Preparing the Duck:

    • Remove the duck from its vacuum-sealed bag (I'll link the vacuum sealer I use in the description).
    • Place the duck in the Ninja Max Pro drawer, cut side down.
    • Season the duck with Himalayan salt, sea salt, and ground black pepper. Duck is naturally fatty, so there's no need for additional oil.
  2. Roasting the Duck:

    • Set the Ninja Max Pro to the roast setting at 190°C (375°F).
    • Cook the duck for 10 minutes.
  3. Preparing the Vegetables:

    • Place the cut-up potatoes and chunky carrots in a microwave-safe container.
    • Add a bit of water and microwave for 6 minutes.

Cooking Process

  1. First 10 Minutes:

    • After the first 10 minutes, remove the duck and give it a flip. Add the microwaved vegetables to the air fryer basket.
    • Set the air fryer to roast at 190°C (375°F) and cook for another 10 minutes.
  2. Second 10 Minutes:

    • After the second 10 minutes, check the duck’s internal temperature. It should be over 74°C (165°F). If not, cook for an additional 5 minutes.
    • The vegetables should be turning a lovely color by now. Give them a mix to ensure even cooking.
  3. Final Check:

    • Once the duck reaches the desired temperature, let it rest for a few minutes. The internal temperature will rise slightly as it rests.
    • Drain any excess oil from the duck and let the vegetables stay in the warm air fryer while you prepare the gravy.

Serving

  • Carve the duck (though I find it tricky, the taste is worth it!).
  • Serve the duck with the roasted vegetables and your favorite gravy.

Tips

  • Air Fryer Accessories: I've linked some of my favorite accessories in the description below. They make cooking with an air fryer even easier.
  • Carving Tips: If you struggle with carving duck, consider buying duck breasts instead. They’re easier to handle and just as delicious.
