Making Mini Cinnamon Swirls
Welcome, everyone! Today, we're making mini cinnamon swirls using basic ingredients. These are one of my current favorites, usually store-bought, but today we're trying them in the air fryer. Let's get started!
Ingredients:
- 80 grams of butter (margarine might work, let me know in the comments if you've tried it)
- 60 grams of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
- Store-bought puff pastry
- 1 beaten egg
Instructions:
Prepare the Butter and Sugar Mixture:
- In a bowl, combine 80 grams of butter and 60 grams of brown sugar.
- Add 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon (or more if you like a strong cinnamon flavor).
- Microwave the mixture for 30 seconds to make it easier to spread.
Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Roll out the store-bought puff pastry.
- Spread the butter-sugar-cinnamon mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border on one edge.
- Brush the border with the beaten egg to help seal the roll.
Roll and Slice:
- Roll the pastry loosely from the cinnamon-covered edge to the egg-brushed edge.
- Slice the roll into approximately 2-3 cm pieces. Aim for 12 pieces, but 11 will work too.
Air Fry:
- Place the swirls in the air fryer basket.
- Set the air fryer to 180°C (or use the bake setting if preferred) and cook for 12 minutes.
Icing (Optional):
- Mix 3 heaped teaspoons of icing sugar with a little water until you get a drizzle consistency.
- Once the swirls are cool, drizzle the icing over the top.
Serve:
- Let the swirls cool on a cooling rack with kitchen paper underneath to catch any drips.
- Enjoy them warm as a quick treat or party snack!
These mini cinnamon swirls are perfect for unexpected guests or a fun baking project with kids. They may not be as luxurious as store-bought ones, but they’re delicious and easy to make.
