Making Mini Cinnamon Swirls

Welcome, everyone! Today, we're making mini cinnamon swirls using basic ingredients. These are one of my current favorites, usually store-bought, but today we're trying them in the air fryer. Let's get started!

Ingredients:

  • 80 grams of butter (margarine might work, let me know in the comments if you've tried it)
  • 60 grams of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
  • Store-bought puff pastry
  • 1 beaten egg

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Butter and Sugar Mixture:

    • In a bowl, combine 80 grams of butter and 60 grams of brown sugar.
    • Add 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon (or more if you like a strong cinnamon flavor).
    • Microwave the mixture for 30 seconds to make it easier to spread.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:

    • Roll out the store-bought puff pastry.
    • Spread the butter-sugar-cinnamon mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border on one edge.
    • Brush the border with the beaten egg to help seal the roll.
  3. Roll and Slice:

    • Roll the pastry loosely from the cinnamon-covered edge to the egg-brushed edge.
    • Slice the roll into approximately 2-3 cm pieces. Aim for 12 pieces, but 11 will work too.
  4. Air Fry:

    • Place the swirls in the air fryer basket.
    • Set the air fryer to 180°C (or use the bake setting if preferred) and cook for 12 minutes.
  5. Icing (Optional):

    • Mix 3 heaped teaspoons of icing sugar with a little water until you get a drizzle consistency.
    • Once the swirls are cool, drizzle the icing over the top.
  6. Serve:

    • Let the swirls cool on a cooling rack with kitchen paper underneath to catch any drips.
    • Enjoy them warm as a quick treat or party snack!

These mini cinnamon swirls are perfect for unexpected guests or a fun baking project with kids. They may not be as luxurious as store-bought ones, but they’re delicious and easy to make.
