Our Journey with Dehydrated Foods
We began dehydrating foods when we first got the Power Air Fryer Oven a few years ago. If you search for "dehydrated strawberries" on RecipeThis.com, you'll see it in action. Although that air fryer eventually wore out, we upgraded to the Ninja Foodi, which includes a dehydrator function. This inspired us to make our own dehydrated strawberries and create a video to demonstrate the process.
What You'll Need to Dehydrate Strawberries
- Fresh strawberries
- A good chopping knife
- Optional: extra virgin olive oil and stevia
Step-by-Step Instructions
Slice the Strawberries:
- Begin by slicing the strawberries lengthways. It's okay if they aren't uniform in size. Unlike bananas or watermelon, strawberries don't require perfect uniformity.
Prepare the Dehydrator:
- We use a stackable system from Ninja, which allows you to dehydrate multiple layers of fruits and vegetables simultaneously.
Arrange the Strawberries:
- Place the sliced strawberries on the dehydrator trays, ensuring they are evenly spaced. Discard any bad bits.
Optional Additions:
- Lightly spray the strawberries with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with stevia for added flavor. This is a great option if you're following diets like Weight Watchers, Slimming World, or Whole30.
Load and Set the Ninja Foodi:
- Load the trays into the Ninja Foodi. Set the dehydrator to 55°C (130°F) and the cook time to 2.5 hours.
Check and Cool:
- After 2.5 hours, let the strawberries cool in the Ninja Foodi for an hour. Check their texture; they should be similar to dried herbs.
Storage and Serving
Dehydrated strawberries are a delicious and healthy snack that can last for up to a year when stored properly. They're perfect for enjoying strawberries out of season or as a snack alternative to sweets.
